Ding Dong, the Binky's dead
Ann and I are getting back into the groove at our jobs after a great week in Wichita Falls. It's hard to know where to start talking about all the fun we had, it was just a great week of fun and the kids had a blast. Even the road trip to and from Texas was good, although I think next time I might install one of those taxi cab bullet-proof windows to separate the driver from the back seat passengers! ;-) Seriously, a 15-hour drive down and a 2-day drive back went pretty flawlessly, and the kids were good despite having their butts in the same seat all that time. Both were pretty bummed to be home and away from their cousins, but they also enjoyed being back in familiar territory and getting back to school today to see their friends at the Y.
So, about the binky. We have finally crossed the binky-free threshold, and Addie is being a champ about it. Somewhere between talking with her about it before the trip that we would give the binkies to Greta and actually losing one on the trip, Addie somehow forgot to care about it while sleeping in a blow-up bed in JB's room all week. When she did remember once in a while (just once or twice on the way home) we just reminded her how much of a big girl she was for going without it. She would respond proudly by stating that she didn't need her binky anymore. We even made up a funny story to go along with the legend, that the binky somehow fell out of the car at the dumpy car wash in Oklahoma and landed in the horse crap in the car wash drain. (there really was horse crap down there) Hey, any time you can incorporate "poop" into a story, the kids love it all the more. Either way, it's great to get over that hump with Addie. No more binkys in public, and one less thing she needs to get to sleep at night. After all, with hand-made blanket from KLW, what else do you need?
So it's back to work at the Daily Herald, for 2 days anyway. Lots of email to read and delete, issues to work out and schedules to tidy up. And I need to figure out where we're getting lunch today. Important stuff.
By the way... Michigan State is off to their best start ever for men's basketball. In case anyone cares. They are 19-2 after taking care of Illinois last night. Didn't sound like a very impressive win over the lowly Illini, especially since they played at Breslin, but a wins a win. Now, if Indiana would just knock the shit out of Wisconsin tonight in Madison and shut those Badger fans up for a few minutes...
