Getting back at it

I've been consumed by lots of things lately.
Work, holidays, family visiting, more work, etc.
Not to mention the painting project at the house. (which is complete, thank God.)
And if you're thinking that Facebook has stolen me away from the blogosphere, you're not completely correct. Even my new addiction on that site has not received much of my attention lately.
So I'm just now finding a little time to pop in here and ramble about something.
Today's topic? Idiotic sports icons.
Case in point - Plaxico Burress.
Despite his sub-par behavior in recent years I have always been on the "Plax" bandwagon.
After all, he's a former Spartan who was on the receiving end of many Jeff Smoker passes earlier this decade. And his winning TD catch in last year's Superbowl was one for the books.
But if you've been in front of a television over the last few days, you know he's sporting a new hole in his leg thanks to a nightclub incident where he shot himself with a loaded handgun.
A loaded UNLICENSED handgun no less.
A writer on msnbc.com summed it up well today.
In other news, our family Thanksgiving was a big success, and we had l0ts of great family time with the Wilcox and Neiman families. Waterparks, sledding, lots of food, movies, lots of fires in the fireplace, more sledding.
The party is finally over today as everyone heads back to Door County and Wichita Falls. There's no denying it will be nice to have a relatively empty house this evening - but it will be kind of sad as well.
The nice thing is that there's always more of that family time just around the corner.
We'll be heading to St. Louis for a visit with the Chier and Donahue clans this weekend, and to partake in the annual trivia night that benefits Tom Chier's high school. It's always a blast in St. Louis - let's hope the roads stay dry until Sunday night.
And before we know it, Christmas will be bearing down on us with all of the craziness that it entails. We're double-dipping this year, with early-morning gift opening at home then heading to Grand Rapids to spend the holiday with the Hankins family.
Even work is slowing down a bit to make room for all of the other stuff going on.
Nice.
For everyone that visited over the past week, thanks for spending the Thanksgiving holiday with us and for all of your help in managing the chaos. Special kudos to Karen for her help with preparing Thanksgiving dinner - and to Sara for a great birthday dinner last night.
And to EVERYONE for indulging me with my BW3 night on Sunday.
And yes, even Chris gained 5 pounds this week.
